Russia to chair CIS in 2017

A decision on transition of the chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to Russia since January 1, 2017 has been made at a regular meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, RIA Novosti reported.

“I would like to also say that a decision has been made that since January 1, 2017, in accordance with the documents and the protocol, the chairmanship in the CIS will be transferred to Russia,” Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said.


It was also approved that the next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State will be held October 11, 2017 in Moscow.
